Walk down the aisle and a lot of pads promise to smell like something — powder, roses, “fresh”. It sounds like care. It is closer to marketing.
What fragrance is doing in a pad
Fragrance in a pad does not clean anything and it does not absorb anything. It sits on the top sheet, next to some of the most sensitive skin on your body, for hours at a time, and it covers a smell rather than dealing with it.
For plenty of people that is uneventful. For plenty of others it is the reason a pad starts to itch by the afternoon, and the reason it is hard to tell whether the irritation came from the pad, the heat, or the friction.
Worth knowing
A period does not smell strongly on its own. Most noticeable odour comes from blood sitting against a warm pad for too long — which is a reason to change every four to six hours, not a reason to add perfume.
What we do instead
- No added fragrance in either range, so there is nothing extra sitting against your skin.
- A soft top sheet, because most irritation is friction rather than chemistry.
- High absorbency, so moisture is pulled away from the surface instead of pooling on it.
- Wings, which keep the pad from shifting and rubbing.
The part that actually helps
If freshness is what you are after, the boring answer works better than perfume: change your pad every four to six hours, give the skin a moment to dry before the next one, and wear cotton underwear when you can.
That is it. No fragrance required, and nothing to mask.
If your skin is sensitive
Both of our ranges are designed to be rash-free and hypoallergenic, and both leave fragrance out. If your skin has reacted to scented pads before, the Bamboo range is the gentler-feeling of the two, because the bamboo-based top sheet is closer to cloth than plastic.
If irritation continues no matter what you wear, that is worth raising with a doctor rather than solving with a different pack.
